Futsal Tips : Sliding Tackle Debate by Carlos Mateus and Paulista
Futsal Coach Antonio Carlos Martin- Paulista ( bottom 3rd) Professional Futsal League 1976
Paulista and I usually get together to discuss about the game needs on the International arena.
I would strong recommend Paulista for any professional futsal league or outdoor coach.
Antonio Carlos Martim has taken some coaching courses at the local University as a requirement to be a coach in Brazil youth program.
Paulista Coaching tactical board is an old one, the best made,
but ,no longer available
Lucas Mateus enjoy going over the playing strategies with Uncle Paulista
The 8 dots on each side of the coaching tactical board, has a few tactical patterns such as : full pressure zone, half pressure, defending and attacking , reacting , stealing the ball, players radon rotation, diagonal passing , second post , fifth player or flying goalkeeper... too many to list here.
Paulista is a futsal / soccer master coach, that has lived for the game. You would not learn about futsal on a couple of weekend coaching courses, or sitting four years on a Phys Ed class. Paulista and Mateus together have more than half century of futsal and soccer coaching experiences.
Sliding tackle when is it a foul ?
Sliding on the floor to get to the ball in emotion , are on the rules , and it is called sliding tackle, and a foul must be called if there are body contact- Not really...it all depends on the referee knowledge on the game of futsal from grassroots level.
The rules does not prevent the player to score a goal, while sitting on the floor- after falling in the playing action , or to reach to block a shot going to the target.
The sliding tackle is a foul : when it is putting the players involved in dangerous by the player committing the tackling action.
The common sense of a referee in professional futsal, is let the play be carried on as advantage- judging the action as a natural athletic effort to defend .
Some rules of the thumb in youth futsal is to call the foul when the player hit the floor sliding with both feet in dangerous manner - before getting to the ball you can tell the intention to get the other player or luck of technique . Yellow card or red card depend on the intention or gravity. "The rules is to apply in common sense and not by the Book wording",
In some country were insurance is a must to play sports sliding tackle rules cam be a bit spoiler
Picture Brazilian National League Defender Leco doing a sliding tackle on Vander Carioca.
Leco 's leg is no touching the opposing player body, he is going for the ball, neither his lower body is touching the ground - that is the reading!
There are lots tackling going on on the Brazilian professional league, but very seldom injuries are obvious.
When developing the game in Canada, we switch from Fifusa to Fifa rules, and sliding tackle continued to be the same interpretation.
But again rules were made to be changed as clever players take advantage of it.
Some outdoor referees that move to ref futsal still debating about the futsal tackle rulling.
The futsal tip here is : call only if there were dangerous on the play.
But if are refereeing soccer players playing futsal, you must take extra care. outdoor player usually is a wee bit clumsy when moved from the grass to play on the hard surface.
The real futsal players that started from grassroots knows how to keep a the balance or to fall without get injured.
In the picture below Valdin - former Malwee know playing for Santos, scored a beauty goal sitting on his ass ,after being tackled by opponent. Mr. Referee said "play on" you could hear it from the stands. That was a professional call on a professional futsal game Brazilian National league 2010 final- winning goal.
Here is a clear foul called, the tackler misses the ball and his hand is going for the player body - That is a typical soccer player tackle - Both feet first flying at it .
I bet money that the Tunisia player applying the tackle is an outdoors soccer player. That is what I mean here in this futsal tips - referees must be aware of the differential between a futsal player from a soccer player. and this picture is a clear shot what I am trying to get across.
There are lots nations that put together a futsal team made up of soccer players, spoiling the game . Furthermore, outdoors soccer referees should stay away from refereeing international futsal , such as FIFA world Cup - , without having been involved in futsal leagues year around in their home land .

Spain player (9) scored after being sliding tackled by Argentinean player. Mr. Ref did well - advantage ad not to call it a foul.
Only after read the final action do not get to precipitated and blow the whistle referees are there to to control the game and not stop the actions with the book.
Kids will learn to apply clean tackle on the ball, but that takes coaching ability to show the differences.
Player usually slides tackle in front of a shot directed to the goal , that is fine as long as there is no dangerous play
Referee hand signing says it at all "On the ball"
Futsal Canada Founder Carlos Mateus - was also a founding member of the Bc Futsal Association.
Carlos Mateus Referee provincial certification .
"Believe or not , I had to take a referee test, and the guys that I was teaching all about the basics of futsal signed it " they knew about soccer and I was the one that grew up playing the game in Brazil.
Futsal rules still 80% from the old Fifusa days developed in Brazil.
Brazilian referees has mastered the game along with the history of the game, but there are lots crappy ones too, but that is not because of luck of knowing the rules, but , knowing how to apply the rules in a common sense- with the game on hand , and according with the intentions as the momentum of action is happening.
